Top Tips to Enhance Drone Surveying Melbourne Accuracy

Posted on April 17, 2020May 13, 2020 by Chirag Patel

If you want to get accurate data from drone surveying Melbourne, you need to make sure you have planned well for this day. When it comes to using drones, there is quite an adequate planning that you require to look into and it will help in creating the models and maps required for the drone surveying.
When you don’t want to spend unnecessarily, and yet get the results required, here are a few tips that you can follow through.
• Distance is essential for you to capture the right data when surveying using drones. You need to know the exact distance from the ground so that you know how far or near the drones should be to the point. The ground sampling distance is a requisite number that you should calculate before running your drones along that area. The accuracy with which you measure the drone maps or model is directly proportional to the distance that you measure. In case you are not sure how to measure the GSD or you have not known how to measure, then you need to first confirm to the norms before you begin the calculation
• You should ideally capture a lot of overlap while capturing images for the perfect model or map. For drone mapping Melbourne, you should have a minimum overlapping of at least 75% along the front and 60% along the back. When you have sufficient amount of overlap, then you can create something out of these images. It is good to have extra images as they help in creating better perception. However, if you don’t have enough images, you will not be able to create the model from nothing. As a result, whenever you are working on a surveying project, make sure you have enough raw material to get started.
• You may have defined the area that you want to capture and model but, you need to go beyond the surveying area that you have planned. As part of drone surveying Melbourne, make sure you have defined the area, and you should go beyond the area that you have defined. this will help improve the accuracy of the data. You should ideally expand the area for your flight plan.
• For accuracy of data, you need to make sure you have ground control points. You will not only be able to get the perfect sampling data, but also be able to enhance the relative accuracy associated with ground sampling data. The GCP is more important and defines better accuracy as compared to ground sampling distance. You should obviously calculate the ground sampling distance but, that is not enough. The control points define better data accuracy, and they should not be left unconsidered.
• When it comes to drone mapping Melbourne, it is important to choose a good software that can accurately calculate the data points, know the data and then convert it into a map or a model. It should effectively conclude the results and analyze the measurements to give a good and accurately defined map.
